Cross-Linked Polyethylene (XLPE) Deodorizer

Product Introduction

During the production and vulcanization cross-linking process of XLPE cable materials (especially medium-high voltage power cables and photovoltaic new energy cables), peroxide cross-linking agents break chains at high temperatures, inevitably releasing a large amount of volatile byproducts with strong pungent odors, such as acetophenone and cumyl alcohol. Medium-high voltage cable insulation layers have an absolute "zero tolerance" standard for impurities, polar free molecules, and moisture. Traditional chemical deodorizers easily release trace amounts of water during reactions, causing microporous foaming in the insulation layer, which directly triggers high-voltage electric field distortion and partial discharge breakdown.

To thoroughly bridge the technical gap between "electrical insulation safety" and "odor purification," this product is developed based on "water-free physical adsorption and homologous co-melting anchoring" technology. The fully organic dry-blend architecture 100% excludes any condensation reaction components that release moisture. Utilizing an extremely hydrophobic microscopic porous network, it securely locks polar byproducts like acetophenone through powerful physical adsorption. The entire process generates absolutely no water or gas, perfectly defending the cable's volume resistivity and dielectric strength. A customized homologous non-polar carrier liquefies instantly during extrusion, achieving molecular-level homogeneous dispersion. After cooling, it undergoes deep co-crystallization anchoring, endowing the cable with long-lasting odor control and microscopic purity.

Deodorizing Principle

  • Water-Free Nano Adsorption (Insulation Protection): Employs an extremely hydrophobic nano-scale mesoporous network as the core capture trap, highly compatible with the kinetic diameter of cross-linking byproducts. In the high-temperature melt, they are instantly physically adsorbed and firmly locked via strong van der Waals forces. This purely physical adsorption process involves no water-releasing chemical reactions, thoroughly eliminating the risk of insulation layer micropore foaming.
  • Targeted Charge Complexation: The core active components are macromolecular complexes rich in electrophilic empty orbitals. They actively search for residual free amines and sulfur-containing impurity gases, bonding with them rapidly to form an extremely stable macromolecular network, achieving deep chemical purification.
  • Homologous Co-crystallization Anchoring: Introduces a high-end non-polar polymer carrier with a 100% homologous structure to the polyethylene matrix. It liquefies to encapsulate odor molecules during heating; during cooling, its ultra-long carbon chains undergo deep molecular-level entanglement and co-crystallization with the XLPE matrix. This in-situ anchoring blocks the migration channels of polar components, ensuring a perfect dry surface.
  • Free Radical Quenching & Thermal Stability: A built-in highly efficient antioxidant regulation network preferentially captures excess free radicals generated by high-temperature shear, blocking abnormal thermal-oxidative cleavage of the polyethylene backbone, reducing secondary degradation odors at the source.

Application Areas

  • Medium & High Voltage Power Cables: 10kV, 35kV, and higher-grade XLPE insulation materials using peroxide cross-linking processes.
  • Specialty Eco-friendly Cables: Photovoltaic new energy cables, railway transit cables, and Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH) flame-retardant polyolefin cables.
  • Communication & Precision Cables: High-frequency data line insulation extremely sensitive to dielectric constants, fiber optic cable sheaths, and precision automotive internal wiring.

Usage Method

  • Adding Method: Add during the compounding and preparation process of XLPE insulation materials or silane cross-linkable materials. Put into the mixing equipment together with PE resin, antioxidants, and cross-linking agents.
  • Mixing Requirements: Features excellent self-lubricating, anti-caking properties and low-melting-point liquefaction capabilities, providing a broad tolerance for mixing equipment shear forces (high-speed mixers provide even better results). Routine mixing allows uniform adhesion to the resin surface. Proceed with normal extrusion and cross-linking parameters.

Reference Dosage

  • Recommended Dosage Range: 0.2% - 0.5% of the total material weight.
  • Starting Test Dosage: It is suggested to set the initial trial at 0.3%, and fine-tune based on the specific amount of cross-linking agent used, partial discharge test results, and residual odor levels.

Precautions

  • Extreme Moisture Management: Although extremely hydrophobic, the cable industry has zero tolerance for moisture. Tightly seal the aluminum foil inner bag immediately after opening. Moisture condensation from prolonged exposure to high-humidity environments can cause foaming inside the cross-linking tube.
  • Strict Temperature Control: During the initial mixing stage, strictly control the equipment temperature (usually below the cross-linking agent's decomposition temperature) to prevent premature decomposition resulting in dead materials.
