TPE Deodorizer

Product Introduction

This product is a high-performance reactive deodorizer developed specifically for SEBS/SBS-based TPE (TPS) and its products. During processing and long-term storage, TPE compounds loaded with 50%-70% white oil easily undergo thermo-oxidative degradation, continuously releasing repulsive "rancid oily odors" consisting of low-molecular alkanes, aldehydes, and ketones. Traditional polar deodorizing powders strongly repel the highly oil-extended non-polar TPE matrix. When physically added, they readily migrate and precipitate on the product surface, forming thick "white frost" (blooming) and severely damaging the characteristic soft, delicate touch of TPE.

To break through this technical limitation, this product pioneers an "in-situ compatibilization and targeted anchoring" technology. The formula embeds a macromolecular interfacial bridging skeleton homologous to the TPE base. During downstream high-temperature extrusion, the polar end of this skeleton instantly binds the highly active odor-neutralizing metal centers, while its non-polar long rubber chains seamlessly dissolve and entangle within the TPE oil-rubber network. This mechanism not only captures oil oxidation precursors but thermodynamically cuts off the precipitation channel for polar deodorizing substances, achieving true "zero blooming, zero oil bleeding." Integrated with long-lasting antioxidant technology, it durably eliminates rancid oil odors at the source without causing any increase in hardness or decrease in elasticity. Fully compliant with RoHS 2.0 and REACH, it is the ideal purification solution for high-end auto interiors and consumer soft-touch overmolding products.

Deodorizing Principle

  • Pre-Neutralization of Oxidation Odor Precursors: Addressing the high oil content in TPE, a synergistic antioxidant system preferentially captures peroxy free radicals generated during oil oxidation. This forcefully interrupts the oxidation chain reaction, preventing the formation of rancid aldehydes and ketones at the source.
  • Complexation & Curing of Odorous Impurities: High-activity macromolecular metal complexes use empty orbitals to precisely capture and chelate existing degradation odors and irritating residual monomers like styrene, irreversibly converting them into odorless macromolecular coordinate salts.
  • In-situ Compatibilization (Anti-Blooming Anchoring): Maleic anhydride grafted copolymers (e.g., SEBS-g-MAH) act as homologous compatibilizers. In the high-temp melt, the polar ends form secondary bonds with metal salts, while the long non-polar chains seamlessly dissolve and entangle with the TPE base. This fundamentally severs the physical path for polar components to migrate, ensuring the surface remains non-sticky and frost-free.
  • Nanoscale Hydrophobic Isolation (Anti-Spots): Nanoscale hydrophobic fumed silica acts as an anti-caking isolation agent. During dry blending, it densely coats the sticky zinc salts like microscopic ball bearings, forming a physical isolation film with excellent flowability. This guarantees ultimate powder dispersion and entirely eliminates un-melted white spots on injection molded parts.

Application Areas

  • High-End Auto Interiors: TPE car floor mats, dashboard anti-slip pads, steering wheel covers requiring strict low VOC and rancid oil odor elimination.
  • Soft-Touch Overmolding: Sensory and eco-friendly enhancement for toothbrush handles, power tool grips, and sports equipment non-slip grips.
  • Electronics & Consumer Goods: TPE headphone cables, smart wearable straps, and eco-friendly toys requiring exceptional skin-friendly touch.

Usage Method

  • Adding Method: A purely physical dry-blend powder. Without changing existing processes, dry blend the deodorizer evenly with TPE pellets before granulation or injection molding. Thorough contact yields better odor removal.
  • Processing Requirements: Extruder or injection molding temperatures must be maintained above 160°C. Only under the high-temperature and high-shear state of the melt can the "in-situ compatibilization anchoring" reaction be effectively triggered to complete co-crystallization and activate the anti-blooming mechanism.

Reference Dosage

  • Recommended Dosage: Add at 0.1% - 0.3% of total material weight.
  • Starting Test Dosage: Dosages can be adjusted based on oil extension ratios and actual odor intensity. It is recommended to start sampling at 0.2% to evaluate odor removal efficiency and observe any optical impact on highly transparent TPE.

Precautions

  • Dry Blending Uniformity: Ensure the composite powder adheres evenly to the surface of TPE pellets during physical mixing. Avoid poor dispersion caused by localized high concentrations, which could affect surface finish and touch.
  • Moisture-Proof Storage: After opening, immediately tie the inner moisture-proof bag tightly and store in a cool, dry place long-term to prevent caking from moisture absorption.
