PU Leather Deodorizer

Product Introduction

In the industrial production of Maleic Anhydride (MAH) grafted modifications (such as PP-g-MAH, PE-g-MAH, and specialty elastomer grafts) and high-end PU synthetic leather, strong irritating acidic and chemical solvent odors have always been a pain point hindering the entry of these materials into high-end automotive interiors and eco-friendly home sectors. The odor originates from polar small molecules generated by the decomposition of peroxide initiators under high-temperature shear, as well as aldehyde and ketone substances released by the thermal-oxidative cleavage of the polymer backbone. Traditional alkaline inorganic powders or polar organic deodorizers easily cause uneven dispersion in pure polymer melts, or fatally undergo ring-opening cross-linking with the valuable maleic anhydride groups, leading to a drastic drop in grafting rate and surface precipitation flaws.

To thoroughly dismantle these physical and chemical barriers, this product is meticulously crafted as an "all-melting homologous organic phase" reactive purification additive. The underlying architecture implements extremely strict dual designs of "chemical inertness" and "thermodynamic homology," 100% excluding inorganic fillers and functional groups that would consume anhydrides. An ultra-low melting point, high-purity homologous polymer carrier fully liquefies instantly in the 140°C temperature zone, driving the active components to achieve absolute molecular-level homogeneous dispersion in the melt, ensuring optical purity. This product builds a dual-track purification mechanism of "source pyrolysis blocking + terminal targeted complexation" without interfering with the normal grafting reaction. Upon cooling, perfect co-crystallization occurs, truly realizing the perfect unity of extreme odor neutralization, surface dryness, and "100% grafting rate protection".

Deodorizing Principle

  • Empty Orbital Targeted Chemical Complexation (Preserves Grafting Rate): The core active components are electron-deficient organometallic macromolecules rich in empty orbitals. Activated by the high melt temperature, they possess an acute targeted capture ability for the irritating oxygen-containing derivatives generated by initiator decomposition. Through gentle yet firm coordinate bonding, they convert them into stable, non-volatile compounds. This component exhibits absolute "anhydride inertness," never consuming the reactive grafting groups on the polymer chain, perfectly protecting the material's coupling and adhesion activity.
  • Free Radical Capture & Pyrolysis Blocking (Source Reduction): A highly efficient antioxidant regulation network is embedded in the system. In high-temperature, high-shear environments, it preferentially quenches free radicals generated by initiator excess, severing the random thermal-oxidative cleavage of the polymer backbone, and drastically reducing the release of new odor molecules at the source.
  • Fully Melting Homologous Dispersion (Microscopic Purity): Employs a low-melting homologous non-polar polymer as the full dispersion phase. During extrusion heating, the carrier liquefies completely and instantly, driving the active components to achieve molecular-level homogeneous dispersion without dead spots. During cooling crystallization, its carbon chain structure, which is completely homologous to the base resin, undergoes deep co-crystallization. Thermodynamic laws lock the channels for polar substances, thoroughly ensuring long-lasting surface smoothness.

Application Areas

  • Polyolefin Graft Compatibilizers: Deodorization and purification of high-end compatibilizers like PP-g-MAH, PE-g-MAH, POE-g-MAH, and EVA-g-MAH.
  • Specialty Elastomer Grafts & Leather: High-end tougheners like SEBS-g-MAH, EPDM-g-MAH, and adhesive base layers for high-end PU artificial/synthetic leather with strict environmental requirements.
  • High-Standard Downstream Modified Applications: Tie-layer resins for multi-layer co-extruded high-barrier films, compatibilizers for high-end halogen-free flame-retardant cable materials, and low-odor fiberglass/mineral-filled modified materials for automotive interiors.

Usage Method

  • Adding Method: This product is a ready-to-use physical dry powder/microflake. Directly dry-blend it with the resin base, grafting monomers, and initiators in the early batching stage of preparing MAH grafted masterbatches, modification blending, or PU leather slurry preparation.
  • Mixing Requirements: Features excellent dry dispersibility and low-melting liquefaction characteristics. It has a broad tolerance for mixing equipment shear forces (high-speed mixers provide even better results). Normal tumbling at room temperature allows uniform coating, and subsequent entry into a twin-screw extruder (processing temp ≥ 140°C) achieves perfect "liquid-in-liquid" homogeneous dispersion.

Reference Dosage

  • General Recommendation: Add 0.3% - 0.6% of the total material weight.
  • Starting Test Dosage: It is suggested to uniformly set the initial sampling and pelletizing at 0.4%. Subsequent fine-tuning can be done based on the residual odor grade of the final product and the titration results of the grafting rate.

Precautions

  • Melt Processing Temperature Requirement: This product is an all-organic melting system. To ensure the dispersion carrier and active components are thoroughly liquefied and activated, the actual melt temperature of the twin-screw extruder must be set above 140°C.
  • Moisture-Proof Storage: If not fully used after opening, be sure to tie the moisture-proof inner bag tightly and store in a cool, dry place. This avoids prolonged moisture absorption that could introduce water, trigger abnormal hydrolysis of maleic anhydride monomers, and lower grafting efficiency.
