Nitrile Rubber (NBR) Deodorizer

Product Introduction

This product is a high-performance reactive odorless deodorizer developed specifically to solve the persistent odor problems of Nitrile Rubber (NBR) and its products in complex application environments. While NBR is widely used for its excellent oil resistance, it often releases a pungent "bitter almond" odor due to residual acrylonitrile monomers and oligomer volatilization. Additionally, amine-based accelerators added during mixing decompose upon heating, emitting foul fishy and amine stenches. More problematically, when NBR products are immersed in fuels or lubricants for long periods, they release complex degradation odors, and traditional polar deodorizers are easily extracted by the oil phase or migrate to the surface.

To break this industry bottleneck, this product innovatively integrates "Cyano-Targeted Purification" and "Multiple Acid-Base Complexation" dual core technologies. Under the high temperature and shear of the internal mixer, a special anti-precipitation lubricating carrier melts first, perfectly encapsulating the highly active polar deodorizing molecules. After crosslinking and cooling, the non-polar long chains of the carrier physically entangle deeply with the NBR macromolecular network. This original "in-situ anchoring" mechanism thermodynamically blocks the migration channels of polar molecules, ensuring a pure and dry product surface, and imparts extremely strong oil-resistant anti-extraction capabilities. It thoroughly eliminates characteristic chemical odors while completely maintaining NBR's excellent oil resistance, heat resistance, and physical mechanical properties.

Deodorizing Principle

  • Cyano-Targeted Hydrolysis & Stabilization: Built-in highly active nucleophilic centers accurately attack the cyano carbon atoms in residual acrylonitrile monomers. Through mild nucleophilic addition reactions, they are converted into odorless stable macromolecular structures, completely eliminating the source of the "bitter almond" smell with extreme selectivity.
  • Chemical Neutralization & Chelation of Amines: Targeting odors from decomposed amine accelerators, it adopts a "dual lock" pathway. First, built-in solid organic acids trigger an acid-base neutralization to weaken the volatility of free amines; then, highly active metal empty orbitals exert powerful coordination chelation, permanently converting volatile amines and neutralized products into non-volatile, odorless complexes firmly fixed within the rubber network.
  • In-situ Anchoring & Oil-Resistant Anti-Extraction: Utilizes an amphiphilic wide-temperature solid compatible carrier that melts to wrap the polar reactive main agents at high mixing temperatures. Upon cooling, the carrier's long chains deeply entangle with the NBR matrix. This prevents molecules from precipitating in the air and prevents the deodorizing components from being extracted by the oil phase during long-term contact with fuels and lubricants, ensuring long-lasting purification in oil-resistant systems.

Application Areas

  • Industrial & Fluid Control: Low VOC eco-friendly NBR oil seal odor removal, oil-resistant rubber hose odor purification, nitrile conveyor belts, and long-lasting deodorization for hydraulic seals.
  • Automotive & Heavy Machinery: Automotive fuel hose bitter almond odor treatment, high-temperature nitrile shock absorber pad deodorization, and engine O-ring oil-soaking odor control.
  • Medical & Daily Commodities: Odor purification for high-demand nitrile work gloves and medical gloves, food-contact packaging gaskets, and odorless modification for sports equipment and kitchenware rubber grips.

Usage Method

  • Adding Method: It is recommended to add it during the early stage of internal mixing, synchronized with the addition of small materials (like antioxidants). While standard mixing equipment provides good dispersion, using a high-speed mixer (high-shear mixer) to pre-disperse it with other inorganic powders in the formula is highly recommended for the most optimal, extremely uniform dispersion.
  • Mixing Requirements: Utilize the high temperature and strong shear force of the internal mixer to ensure the solid carrier fully melts, allowing the deodorizing powder to thoroughly mix with the compound and complete micro-encapsulation and anchoring.

Reference Dosage

  • Recommended Dosage: 0.1% - 0.3% (based on total material weight).
  • Starting Test Dosage: To achieve the best balance between deodorization, anti-precipitation, and extraction resistance, we recommend starting tests at 0.2%, customizing the final dosage based on actual odor reduction and oil immersion test results.

Precautions

  • Processing Temp Threshold: The anti-precipitation and oil-resistant anti-extraction mechanisms highly depend on high-temperature melt encapsulation. The actual compound temperature must exceed 145°C to avoid risks of surface migration or reduced oil resistance.
  • Moisture-proof Storage: Highly active nucleophilic reagents and catalytic centers are extremely sensitive to environmental moisture. After opening for sampling, exhaust the air immediately, seal tightly, and store in a cool, dry place.
