Maleic Anhydride (MAH) Graft Deodorizer

Product Introduction

In Maleic Anhydride (MAH) grafting modification (e.g., PP-g-MAH, PE-g-MAH), materials often emit extremely strong, pungent chemical solvent odors. These stem primarily from peroxide initiators (like DCP) decomposing under high heat and shear into pungent small molecules like acetophenone and cumyl alcohol. Traditional deodorizers fail here: porous inorganic powders cause unmeltable "white spots" (gels/fisheyes) during downstream injection or film blowing; organic deodorizers containing reactive groups crosslink directly with MAH, causing graft ratios to plummet; and polar waxes inevitably bloom on the surface upon cooling.

To overcome this chemical and physical divide, this product is engineered as an "all-melt homologous organic phase" reactive deodorizer. The formula achieves strict "chemical inertness" by 100% excluding inorganic fillers and reactive functional groups that consume anhydrides. Utilizing a high-purity, low-melting-point homologous polymer carrier, it instantly liquefies above 140°C in the extruder, ensuring absolute molecular-level homogeneous dispersion to eradicate "white spots". It utilizes targeted metal empty orbitals to capture DCP degradation products, converting them irreversibly into stable complexes without consuming reactive graft groups. Upon cooling, it co-crystallizes perfectly with the matrix, achieving "zero blooming, zero white spots, and 100% graft ratio preservation", making it the ultimate solution for high-end compatibilizers and tie resins.

Deodorizing Principle

  • Targeted Chemical Chelation (Preserving Grafting): The core active component is an electron-deficient organometallic macromolecule. Activated by melt heat, it precisely hunts pungent oxygen-containing derivatives (ketones, alcohols) from initiator decomposition. Through strong coordinate bonding, it converts them into non-volatile compounds. Crucially, it exhibits absolute "anhydride inertness" and never consumes the grafted functional groups, perfectly preserving coupling activity.
  • All-Melt Homologous Dispersion (Zero Spots & Blooming): Completely abandons infusible inorganic carriers, using a low-melting-point homologous non-polar polymer as the dispersion phase. It liquefies instantly upon heating, driving the active ingredients to achieve dead-zone-free, homogeneous dispersion (eliminating white spots). During cooling, its carbon chain deeply co-crystallizes with the base resin, thermodynamically locking the precipitation channel (eliminating blooming).
  • Radical Quenching & Pyrolysis Blockade: An embedded highly efficient antioxidant network preferentially quenches excess free radicals under high-shear extrusion, cutting off random thermo-oxidative chain scission and drastically reducing the source release of new odor molecules.

Application Areas

  • Polyolefin Graft Compatibilizers: Deep odor purification for granulating high-end PP-g-MAH, PE-g-MAH, POE-g-MAH, and EVA-g-MAH.
  • Elastomer Graft Modifications: Eliminating pungent solvent odors from peroxide initiator decomposition in SEBS-g-MAH and EPDM-g-MAH systems.
  • High-Standard Downstream Products: Odor control for tie-layer resins in multi-layer co-extruded barrier films, LSZH cable compatibilizers, and automotive modified plastics.

Usage Method

  • Adding Method: A fully physical dry powder additive. Direct mix with base resins, MAH monomers, and initiators during the preliminary compounding stage.
  • Mixing Requirements: Features excellent dry dispersibility and low melting point, requiring absolutely no high-shear mixing. A standard V-type or tumble mixer at room temperature with low-speed rotation is sufficient.

Reference Dosage

  • Recommended Dosage: Add at 0.3% - 0.6% of total material weight.
  • Starting Test Dosage: It is recommended to start testing at 0.4%. Fine-tune later based on the final compatibilizer's residual DCP odor level and graft ratio test results.

Precautions

  • Minimum Processing Temperature: As an all-organic melt-type system, the extruder melt temperature must be set above 150°C to ensure the dispersion phase and active components completely liquefy and activate homogeneously.
  • Moisture-Proof Storage: Unused powder must be tightly sealed and stored in a cool, dry place to prevent prolonged moisture absorption, which could introduce free water and cause abnormal hydrolysis of valuable MAH monomers.
