Food Packaging Deodorizer

Product Introduction

With increasingly stringent food safety regulations, high-end food-contact packaging materials (PE, PP, PET) face severe challenges regarding low VOC emissions and odor control. During high-temperature processes like blown film or casting (180°C-280°C), resins easily undergo thermal-oxidative degradation, producing pungent "plastic oxidation odors" such as nonanal and octanal. These byproducts not only taint food flavor but pose compliance risks regarding Specific Migration Limits (SML).

Targeting this sensitive pain point, this product is deeply customized for food-contact films. The formula uses 100% FDA and GB9685 compliant ingredients. Unlike traditional fragrance masking, it utilizes "porous interception and targeted metal chelation" dual technology. Inside the extruder, the low-melting-point active deodorizing salt liquefies instantly and is drawn deep into the pores of highly oil-absorbent, food-grade silica via capillary action, achieving in-situ microencapsulation. This locks escaping aldehyde/ketone molecules precisely, and more importantly, rheologically prevents polar additives from migrating to the film surface. This guarantees "zero blooming" and preserves crucial heat sealability. Additionally, its refractive index perfectly matches polyolefin resins, providing an optical stealth effect that eliminates odors without causing haze.

Deodorizing Principle

  • Source Blockade & Targeted Chelation: Built-in complex antioxidants act as the first line of defense, blocking carbon chain oxidative decomposition at the source. For the few escaping polar foul molecules, the core metal coordination centers use empty orbitals to form rapid, irreversible coordinate bonds, permanently converting volatile molecules into stable, odorless complexes.
  • In-situ Microencapsulation & Mesoporous Interception: The food-grade silica skeleton with massive pore volume physically intercepts organic volatiles. At high temperatures, it exerts strong capillary suction, drawing the liquefied active deodorizing salts deep into its mesopores and anchoring them, forming an array of microscopic deodorizing capsules.
  • Optical Invisibility & Zero Blooming for Heat Sealing: The refractive index of silica (~1.46) closely matches PE/PP resins, ensuring excellent optical compatibility to prevent haze. Because the active salts are "physically imprisoned" within the skeleton, they lose the thermodynamic drive to migrate to the surface. This prevents the formation of a blooming barrier, perfectly protecting the heat seal performance of flexible packaging.

Application Areas

  • High-Clarity Flexible Films: Deodorization for blown and cast PE cling films, PP ziplock bags, BOPP printed films, cold-fresh meat skin packaging, and premium food vacuum bags.
  • Food-Grade Rigid Containers: Widely used in PET high-transparency fresh food boxes, PP beverage cups, PS food trays, disposable airline tableware, and various precision-injected food contact containers.
  • Liquid & Sensitive Food Packaging: Odor control for bottle cap liners, condiment bottles, drinking water pipes, and direct food-contact catheter systems.

Usage Method

  • Adding Method: A high-purity dry powder. During the compounding stage of pelletizing, blown film, or injection, dry-blend this deodorizer directly with the plastic resin pellets.
  • Mixing Requirements: Use low- to medium-speed mixing equipment at room temperature. Strictly prohibit adding any non-food-grade liquid white oils or dispersing waxes during dry blending, as they may reduce transparency or compromise heat sealing.

Reference Dosage

  • Recommended Dosage: Add at 0.5% of the total material weight.
  • Starting Test Dosage: It is recommended to use 0.5% as the standard starting dose. Downstream clients can fine-tune between 0.3% - 0.8% based on the regrind ratio and final film odor performance.

Precautions

  • Strict Moisture Protection (Critical): The deeply dehydrated skeleton is highly hygroscopic. If the powder absorbs moisture, rapid vaporization during high-temp blown film extrusion (~200°C) will cause fatal micro-bubbles, "water ripples," or even film tearing. Use promptly after opening and vacuum-seal any remainder immediately.
  • Temperature Compatibility: This product maintains excellent purification activity between 180°C-280°C. There is absolutely no need to alter existing extrusion process parameters to accommodate the deodorizer.
