Auto Interior Deodorizer

Product Introduction

This product is a reactive, odorless composite deodorizer specially developed for the entire material system of modern automotive interiors (including rigid plastics, elastomers, PU foam, leather, and adhesives). As global automakers implement increasingly stringent standards for Vehicle Indoor Air Quality (VIAQ) and VOC emissions, interior components face complex odor challenges: thermal oxidative degradation of plastics (like PP/ABS) releases irritating aldehydes and ketones, while PU foam seats and adhesives leave behind amine catalysts and sulfur stenches. Traditional single-function deodorizers cannot handle this "cocktail" of odors and tend to migrate to the surface during hot summer days, causing condensation on windows (fatal FOG defects).

To thoroughly resolve the technical conflict between "full-spectrum deodorization and zero precipitation," this product employs an advanced "dual-action targeted capture and solid-state in-situ anchoring" synergistic technology. The built-in reactive carrier melts first under high-temperature extrusion or internal mixing, perfectly encapsulating highly active deodorizing substances and forming deep physical entanglement and covalent bonding with the macromolecular backbone of non-polar substrates. This mechanism permanently locks the deodorizer within the material's 3D network at the thermodynamic level, significantly simplifying material odor management for OEMs and achieving truly long-lasting purification. It easily handles VDA 270 odor tests and VDA 278 FOG tests, and complies with RoHS 2.0 and REACH regulations.

Deodorizing Principle

  • Dual-Action Chemical Association: The formula incorporates two types of highly active functional molecules. One contains strong nucleophilic groups that irreversibly react with aldehyde and ketone VOCs upon heating. The other is a special metal-organic complex that utilizes empty orbitals to strongly chelate free amine catalysts (nitrogen-containing molecules) and sulfides, converting all odor sources into stable complexes with high molecular weight and extremely low vapor pressure.
  • In-Situ Anchoring & Anti-FOG: To address the migration of polar active substances, a long-chain amphiphilic solid functional medium with reactive groups is introduced. During high-temperature processing, the active ends form covalent bonds (chemical anchoring) with the matrix, while non-polar long chains entangle deeply with the polymer. This completely cuts off the migration channels to the surface, perfectly solving window fogging (FOG) issues.
  • Physical Enrichment Micro-Zones: Supported by micro-nano porous materials with high surface areas and hydrophobicity, it builds numerous physical traps inside the polymer to directionally adsorb escaping C8-C20 low-molecular volatiles, providing a high-concentration micro-environment for chemical neutralization.

Application Areas

  • Rigid & Modified Interior Plastics: Low VOC modification for automotive dashboards, door panels, center consoles, pillar trims, and AC vents made of PP, ABS, PC/ABS, etc.
  • Elastomers & Foaming Systems: EPDM/PP dynamically vulcanized weatherstrips (TPV), automotive PU foam seat cushions, polyurethane sound-insulating cotton, and carpet backing.
  • Surface Covering Materials: Widely used in synthetic leather (PVC/PU) for interiors, headliner fabric coatings, and various eco-friendly interior composite adhesives.

Usage Method

  • Adding Method: In a twin-screw extruder (compounding) or internal mixer, the deodorizer must be added into the main feed port along with resin pellets or raw rubber and fillers at the initial mixing stage to ensure full dispersion and participation in high-temperature shear reactions.
  • Mixing Requirements: Dry blend directly with the target resin or rubber. Ensuring uniform dispersion of the powder in the matrix is critical to prevent agglomeration and ensure consistent deodorizing performance.

Reference Dosage

  • Rigid Plastics (PP/ABS): 0.1% - 0.2% of the total material weight.
  • Elastomers & Foam Products (PU/EPDM with heavy odors): 0.2% - 0.3%.
  • Starting Test Recommendation: Start injection or extrusion trials at the median dosage of 0.2%, and fine-tune based on final VDA 270 odor scores and VDA 278 FOG data.

Precautions

  • Temperature Requirement: The "in-situ anchoring" mechanism relies on high-temperature shear. The processing temperature must reach above 160°C (usually in the melting section of the extruder) for the solid carrier to fully melt and encapsulate. Strictly prohibited in low-temperature cold mixing processes.
  • Moisture & Storage: Polar groups are sensitive to moisture. Squeeze out the air, seal tightly immediately after opening, and store in a dry place to prevent moisture absorption.
