ABS Deodorizer

Product Introduction

In the manufacturing of high-end automotive interiors and high-gloss appliance casings, ABS resin and its alloys (like PC/ABS) dominate. However, during high-temperature injection and extrusion (180°C-250°C), ABS releases highly complex mixed odors, including aromatic styrene, pungent nitrogen-containing acrylonitrile, and degraded aldehyde/ketone compounds. Traditional methods fail strict automaker VOCs tests. Furthermore, common deodorizing powders often abuse low-molecular lubricants or introduce moisture, causing severe surface "blooming" (mold fouling) or "silver streaks" (white spots) on high-gloss parts.

To overcome these challenges from the ground up, this product is crafted as a high-performance reactive composite deodorizer. It completely eliminates easily precipitated low-molecular organics and moisture-absorbing carriers, innovatively building a dual-core architecture of "homologous macromolecular anchoring and anhydrous nano-isolation." It achieves irreversible odor elimination by physically locking aromatic hydrocarbons and chemically chelating nitrogen-containing monomers. During processing, polar purifying components are firmly anchored within the 3D resin network, cutting off migration channels to the surface. It provides long-lasting odor reduction while perfectly protecting the excellent impact toughness and ultimate high-gloss surface of ABS.

Deodorizing Principle

  • Microporous Targeted Extraction: Selects a heat-resistant porous inorganic skeleton with a specific kinetic pore size. Under high-temperature melt shear, it acts as a "molecular sieve," precisely extracting and deeply trapping free macromolecular aromatic odor monomers via strong capillary forces, preventing rebound.
  • Empty Orbital Rapid Complexation: The core active component is a macromolecular complex rich in electron-deficient empty orbitals. Thermally activated, it seeks out residual pungent nitrogen monomers and sulfur impurities, undergoing irreversible coordination reactions to transform highly volatile stench gases into stable macromolecular networks.
  • Lewis Acid/Base Catalysis: Embedded with special highly efficient transition metal catalytic sites. In the high-temperature extruder, it directly catalytically cracks stubborn aldehyde and ketone odors from thermal degradation, while neutralizing derivatives to enhance overall thermal stability.
  • Homologous Macromolecular Anchoring (Zero Bloom Mechanism): Introduces a macromolecular interfacial compatibilizer with highly polar reactive ends and specific aromatic backbones. The polar ends envelop the polar deodorized products, while the homologous aromatic backbone undergoes deep molecular entanglement with the base resin, thermodynamically locking the migration paths. An outer nanoscale hydrophobic network provides absolute water resistance and a rolling lubrication effect for efficient dispersion.

Application Areas

  • Automotive Low VOC Materials: Car door panels, dashboard components, and AC vent assemblies (ABS, PC/ABS, heat-resistant ABS). Significantly reduces cabin VOCs to pass strict automotive interior air quality (IAQ) tests.
  • High-Gloss Appliances & 3C Electronics: Perfect for black high-gloss TV bezels, router casings, AC panels, and coffee machines. Ensures an extremely high-gloss surface with zero white spots, preserving subsequent high-spec coating adhesion.
  • High-Value Recycling: Demanding odor and gloss requirements for recycled ABS, PS (polystyrene), and AS (SAN resin) modified pelletizing. Completely eliminates complex recycled odors.

Usage Method

  • Addition Method: A ready-to-use dry powder additive. Add along with resin pellets or color masterbatches during the pre-blending stage of modified pelletizing, extrusion, or injection molding.
  • Mixing Requirements: Built with an excellent nano anti-stick and self-lubricating network, it does not rely on high shear from high-speed mixers. Simply tumble mix at room temperature in a V-blender or drum mixer for 5-10 minutes until evenly coated onto the resin pellets.

Reference Dosage

  • Standard New ABS (Mild Odor): 0.3% - 0.5% of total weight.
  • Complex ABS Alloys or Recycled Material: 0.6% - 0.8% of total weight.
  • Starting Test Dosage: It is recommended to start testing at 0.5%, allowing customers to fine-tune based on strict low-odor standards (e.g., auto VOC norms) and surface finish requirements.

Precautions

  • Extreme Moisture Management: Despite nano-hydrophobic treatments, the inorganic porous skeleton has a massive surface area. Tightly seal the packaging immediately after use. Moisture absorbed during prolonged exposure will vaporize at high temperatures, causing fatal "silver streaks" on high-gloss ABS parts.
  • Processing Temperature: Keep processing temperatures between 180°C - 250°C to perfectly activate the melt anchoring effect of the macromolecular compatibilizer.
